The sentence originates from an allegedly apocryphal Islamic tradition. It can be interpreted as follows: every thing harbors a kind of spirit that desires to be explored and understood. This reverses the usual perspective in which humans attempt to better understand their environment by examining, scanning, and otherwise investigating objects.
In a hybrid of video footage and 3D animation, the camera’s point of view travels from one side of a portal to the other. A voice-over, narrated from the perspective of a computer, reflects on the impact of 3D technology on both human and machinic perception of reality.
