INTERDISCIPLINARY PROJECT
website, 3-channel video installation with sound, 3D-renderings
Funded by the Kulturstiftung des Freistaats Sachsen
The website is a collaboration with actu&tactu (graphic design) and Zeno Gries (coding).
Recently, we received a nomination from the Sächsischer Staatspreis für Design and are very honored and happy about this.
Plants are often perceived as decorative but rarely receive our full attention. Instead, they are only perceived like a green background noise in which it can be difficult to distinguish individual species, also referred to as plant blindness.
Herbarium Machina is an artistic web project situated at the intersection of art, botany, and technology, highlighting the individuality of plants. At the same time, it serves as an experiment exploring how 3D software can support the representation of plants.
For the launch of the website, botanists from the University of Leipzig selected several plants and described them in their own words. In the future, Herbarium Machina will continue to expand in collaboration with additional botanical gardens.
